The US government, in its second chargesheet in the Mumbai terror attack case, has named ISI officer Major Iqbal as a key conspirator for the 26/11 carnage.In the chargesheet five people have been named as accused in the case of "conspiracy to bomb places of public use in India".Even as US-Pakistan ties are under strain, a second chargesheet has been filed in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks case by the United States.The five accused are Sajid Majeed, Abu Qahafa, Mazhar Iqbal, Major Iqbal and a Lashkar-e-Toiba member who has been identified as D.
ISI officer Major Iqbal, who is being seen as a key conspirator, has been charged for providing funds to Headley.
Major Iqbal is suspected to be a Pakistan ISI officer who was posted in Lahore during 2007 and 2008. He was handling David Coleman Headley on behalf of ISI for the Mumbai terror attacks and provided $25,000 and fake Indian currency notes to Headley for meeting his expenses during the surveillance operations in India.
Headley reportedly used to give all the surveillance videos first to Major Iqbal and then to the Lashkar.
Major Iqbal, on behalf of the ISI, was actively involved in the planning and execution of Mumbai terror attacks. He is an accused in Case No. 04/2009 of National Investigation Agency pertaining to conspiracy to target important locations in India.
The US chargesheet names Sajid Mir, a resident of Lahore who is the head of Lashkar's India set up. Mir was the main handler of Headley and also personally trained Kasab and his accomplices.
Sajid Majeed alias Sajid Mir alias Wasi alias Ibrahim alias is 35 years old and is considered a close Associate of Lashkar leader Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, Abu Qahafa, Abu Anas and Muzzammill Butt.
Majeed is a senior Lashkar-e-Toiba commander and heads the terror group's 'India set up'. He was the key planner of Mumbai terror attacks and was also Lashkar's main handler of David Coleman Headley. He also provided financial and logistic support to Headley for conducting surveillance of the targets for the Mumbai attacks.
He was personally involved in the training and briefing of all the 10 terrorists who carried out the Mumbai attacks in November 2008.
Majeed was most probably present in the Lashkar control room in Karachi during 26/11 attack and the Indian government has asked for his voice samples from the Pakistani government.
He is also an accused in the National Investigation Agency Case No. 04/2009 pertaining to conspiracy to target important locations in India. He was conspiring with Headley in 2009 to attack targets in Denmark and also has close links with another 26/11 accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana.
Abu Qahafa, a Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) resident was the main conspirator of 26/11. He imparted GPS and map reading training to Mumbai attackers. There is evidence to suggest that he was in LeT control room during 26/11.
Qahafa is a senior Lashkar trainer and an expert in handling arms and explosives. He was also one of the main conspirators of the Mumbai terror attacks and is an absconding accused in the case.
He was closely involved in providing physical and technical training to the 10 terrorists who carried out the Mumbai attacks. He imparted training in GPS handling and map reading to the attackers. During the entire period when the Mumbai terror attacks conspiracy was being hatched, he acted as a secretary to Majeed.
There is evidence to suggest his presence in the Lashkar control room in Pakistan during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The Indian government has asked for his voice samples from the Pakistan authorities.
Lashkar leader Mazhar Iqbal alias Abu Alqama was in charge of the Kashmir set up till 2008. He is also a key conspirator of the Mumbai terror attacks and was involved in training and briefing of all the 10 terrorists who carried out the attacks.
Abu Alqama has been arrested and charged by Pakistan in the 26/11 case.
He was present in Karachi when the attackers left the shores of Pakistan for Mumbai. He was most probably present in the Lashkar control room during 26/11, where he was exhorting the attackers to kill more and more people.
He has been arrested and chargesheeted by Pakistani authorities in the case registered by them in connection with the Mumbai terror attacks.
The Indian government has asked for Alqama's voice samples from Pakistan authorities.
Lashkar member D is believed to be the overall operational commander of Lashkar following the arrest of Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi. He is one of the important conspirators of the Mumbai attacks and is an absconding accused in the case.
He was involved in the planning of the Mumbai attacks since late 2005. He was involved in the recruitment and training of all the 10 terorrists who carried out the Mumbai attack, and also provided logistic and material support to the attackers.
He is reported to have handled David Coleman Headley till early 2007.
